Congregation Ahawas Achim B'nai Jacob and David (AABJ&D) was established in West Orange in 1966 with the purchase of a church building by a merger of Congregation Ahawas Achim B'nai Jacob of Newark and B'nai David in West Orange.
The Synagogue immediately began to attract young orthodox families and in 1974 underwent its first major expansion with the creation of a Sanctuary, multi-purpose auditorium. The older building was converted into a Beis Midrosh and classrooms. In 1994 the congregation completed its latest expansion which included enlarged Santuary and auditorium, and adding a wing for the Sephardim of the congregation. The educational wing includes a large Beit Midrosh, library, nursery school and classrooms.
