RABBI ALVIN M. MARCUSRabbi Alvin M. Marcus has served as the spiritual leader of Congregation Ahawas Achim B’nai Jacob and David, the largest suburban orthodox congregation in Essex county, since September 1968. He received his semicha, rabbinic ordination, from the Isaac Elchanon Theological Seminary of Yeshiva University. Rabbi Marcus also received a Masters Degree from Yeshiva University in community organization and was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity from Yeshiva University in June 1983.
Prior to coming to West Orange, he served as rabbi of Congregation Ahavas Achim Lubovitz in Buffalo, New York, and the Jewish Community Center of Paramus, New Jersey. Rabbi Marcus has served on the Board or as an officer of the Rabbinic Alumni of Yeshiva University, the Rabbinical Council of New Jersey, the Council of Orthodox Rabbis of Metropolitan New Jersey, the National Rabbinic Cabinet of Israel Bonds, the Beth Din of America, the MetroWest United Jewish Federation, the Joint Chaplaincy Commission of the Federation and the Joseph Kushner Academy. He is married to the former Marylin Eisen.
RABBI DONALD BIXON
Rabbi Donald Bixon is the assistant rabbi at Congregation Ahawas Achim B’nai Jacob and David in West Orange.
Rabbi Bixon received his semicha from Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS) and was a fellow in the Katz Kollel for three years. As well as a fellow of the Kollel of Bergen county. He was the assistant to Rabbi Benjamin Yudin of Fair Lawn for two years and served on the faculty of Bruriah High School for Girls in Elizabeth. In 1992 Rabbi Bixon was both a participant and coordinator of RIETS’ summer Kollel as well as the assistant director of the New Jersey region of Junior NCSY. He also served on the educational staff of Camp Mesorah.
Rabbi Bixon is married to the former Aliza Raymon of Highland Park. Mrs Bixon is on the faculty of Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy in West Caldwell.
